How To Wear Shorts In Your 50's

Being a certain age does not mean you have to stop wearing certain styles because in your mind you think they’re no longer appropriate.

Let’s discuss some myths about shorts: Shorts do not only work for younger women. Shorts are not considered casual or leisure wear only. And lastly, not all shorts have to be extremely short and exposing.

If you’re struggling with whether shorts are appropriate for you to wear or not,  They are. Embrace them.

To look and feel your best in shorts, you want to (1) find the best style that flatters your figure (checkout my blog here that will help you narrow this down) and (2) learn how to coordinate your outfits with the right pieces that will create a polished and put together look.

Here are a few examples and outfit samples included in my summer eBooks:

#1: On-Trend Outfit

On-trend doesn’t mean head-to-toe in trendy pieces, bright colors or prints.  Pulling off an on-trend look requires a balance to avoid feeling too trendy.  Layering your outfit with an on-trend and vibrant color; such as this vest doesn’t feel too over the top even when adding colored shoes and a printed bag.  This outfit is a perfect mix of basics and on-trend pieces

Transition this outfit to night by swapping out the flats for a pair of heels, and a dressier bag.

If you need help with pulling off a trendy summer style without feeling too trendy and need stylish outfit ideas - check out this eBook.  The links to shop these outfits with alternative styles are also included.

#2: Classic & On-Trend Outfit

Create a monochromatic look and layer your outfit with a lightweight ruana to break up the tonal look.  Styling this look with a low and chunky heel instead of a stiletto heel helps the look feel more appropriate and on-trend without feeling too trendy.  This outfit also shows you that you don’t need to avoid sleeveless garments, you can hide your arms by adding a layer to your outfit.

Dress down this look by losing the heels and add on a flat - navy to continue with the monochromatic theme.

#3: Classic Outfit

Opt for a bermuda style; it’ll give you more coverage and has a longer hemline.  Add on a loose fitting top and lightweight summer layer (optional).  With this particular outfit combination - a shorter layer will help proportionately balance out the top, bermuda shorts, and flats.

Swap out the layer for a pop of color and add on a heel for a dressier look.
