How To Dress In Your 50's

When I hear women saying they can’t wear certain colors, prints, styles to fits because they’re a certain age -- I’m just, “Yes, you can!”

It’s very easy to feel like you have to have a more boring and predictable style once you reach “a certain age” - but this is so wrong.

In my opinion, you can most definitely pull off any style that you want.. regardless of your age.

Is it easy to pull off a stylish look at any age? Yes.

Do you have to stop wearing certain pieces because you’re a certain age? No.

With age your style evolves, it doesn’t restrict.  Your approach to putting together your look may be the only thing that changes because I doubt you’d want to wear the same outfit that someone in their 20’s is wearing BUT you can still wear the same pieces… with a different way to complete your look through your choice in clothes, shoes and accessories so you feel confident and comfortable styling it at your age.

In order to feel more confident in your style, your wardrobe has to not only have pieces that suit your personal style but the right pieces that’ll allow you to style these pieces in a way that makes you feel more confident.  These pieces are your wardrobe basics.

In order to be fashionable, you have to have a functional wardrobe.  A wardrobe filled with pieces that make sense for your lifestyle, body shape and pieces you’ll actually wear.  It’s one thing to have a closet filled with clothes but when you’re stuck wearing the same pieces and same outfits, your wardrobe is lacking the right pieces.  With the right pieces, you’ll be able to wear all of your clothes and be able to create different outfits around the same pieces without always have to shop for new clothes.

5 Steps To Feeling More Confident In Your Style:

Step One: Wardrobe & Lifestyle Evaluation

When you’re adding to your wardrobe, you should have a good idea on the different pieces your wardrobe needs that are practical for your lifestyle and what your wardrobe is lacking so you have a better approach to shopping and not wasting your money.  The 3 steps to consider first are:

1- Assessing your lifestyle

2- Assessing your wardrobe needs

3- Cleansing your existing wardrobe

Understanding what you need makes it easier to narrow down what to shop and look for.  I breakdown these 3 steps in a Q&A in Building A Wardrobe: The Basics eBook.

Step Two: Knowing How To Dress For Your Body

To be able to confidently pull off a stylish appearance, you’ll not only need a wardrobe full of clothes - but clothes that will flatter your figure.

Not sure what your shape is?

In Building A Wardrobe: The Basics eBook, I include a break down of the different style basic pieces to add into your wardrobe by body type so you have better direction on which necklines, styles to fits to shop for that’ll flatter your figure.

Step Three:  Investing In Your Wardrobe Basics

Believe it or not, there are wardrobe pieces that make it 10 times easier to get dressed and create outfits around everything you own -- these pieces are your wardrobe basics.

Your basics help to balance out your trendy items, colors to prints.

Your basics, in a way, are your ‘when in doubt pieces,’ because they can go with anything.  When you have an item in your closet you’re struggling to style, your basics will match with it.  Whenever you add in new pieces to your wardrobe, you’ll already have outfit options for these pieces with your basics.

10 times out of 10, if you feel like you have a closet full of clothes with nothing to wear it’s because you lack your basics.

Your basics are those classic pieces that you can wear year-round and can span across different occasions, events to seasons.  These neutral pieces can be styled with everything in your closet making it easier to create different looks around the same pieces, minus the shopping.

When you add in different pieces outside of your wardrobe basics, your basics are the pieces that’ll allow you to style these items over and over again in different ways.  If you end up buying a new top for an upcoming trip or a new jacket for date night, you’ll already have plenty of options for it with your wardrobe basics to create more outfits around it.

Your wardrobe basics come in different styles, shapes, colors to fits; so it’s easier for you to fill up your wardrobe with pieces you’ll actually wear and are comfortable in. In Building A Wardrobe: The Basics eBook, you’ll also receive access to a private online shopping guide that’s updated with new pieces throughout the year to help you fill the gaps of your wardrobe with styles that you’ll actually wear.

Your basics are a necessity for your wardrobe.  You need them if you’d like to have a wardrobe that allows you to shop from within to create new outfits without always having to spend money.
