Prints, how many of you avoid wearing them because you have no idea on how to style your look or coordinate your outfit?

You don’t want to feel too loud, you don’t want your look to feel overwhelming and lets be honest, you really aren’t sure on how to coordinate your outfit to pull off a look you feel confident with, without having to second guess yourself.

If there is one thing your wardrobe needs, it’s versatility and options.  Sure, you could have an amazing wardrobe filled with muted and neutral shades, there’s absolutely wrong with that, but sometimes you just want that extra touch to make your outfit feel more different and unique.  Prints allow you to make this happen.

You know how you get dressed and feel like your outfit is missing something and can use a little something something? Allow prints to add that something special to your look.

Play up the plaid shirt with a layer of faux fur, color play and casual accessories.  Even with the print, color booties, color bag and faux fur – the fact that the faux fur is a neutral color and this outfit is paired with denim, these details help to balance out the color and print mix.

In order to pull off mixing prints while in the office, keep the rest of your look simple without any distracting pieces, meaning no over the top accessories, or bold colors outside of the two prints.  Your workplace is not the place to be experimenting with the latest trends,; however, you can still be on trend and stylish without being too trendy.

Even when wearing printed outerwear into the office, remember, trying to be super stylish should not be on the agenda.  To avoid this, I always recommend keeping your outfit fairly simple.  Dominant neutral garments are a must when styling prints for workwear.

PLAID DRESS

Play up the casualness of a shirt dress paired with an oversized denim jacket, riding boots and neutral accessories for a casual day of errands, brunch, or shopping.   While the denim jacket isn’t needed, it’s just another way to layer your look with style and help to add a different element to your outfit – it helps to make your look your own.  Anyone can style a shirt dress and boots, but not everyone would throw on a denim jacket or add on a layer.

While a plaid dress may seem too casual for the office, it can still work! Your job is too dress it up and make it feel polished and suitable workwear.  To make this happen, adding on a neutral belt assists with polishing up this dress and layered with a tailored piece and heels helps to bring the look together.  You can even add on an accessory but be cautious, the plaid dress on it’s own may seem “too trendy” so adding on additional accessories only helps to play that up.  The goal is to avoid that, so, a  small gold or silver accessory would be fine with this look.

Let your hair down, throw on that leather jacket, faux fur, a sexy pair of heels and go! The printed bag helps to make your outfit unique without overwhelming your look because (1) it’s a smaller accessory and (2) your outfit is built around mainly dominant pieces to balance out the look – you could even style with a red heel.  It’s all about finding the balance within your look.

Slay in style while in the office! Who said you can’t be fashionable at work? You most certainly can, when you have the right pieces to help create the balance and you’re able to master the dress up/down method.  A bold printed garment on it’s on my seem overwhelming but styled with the right pieces you can easily tone it down.  Every single garment and accessory added to the skirt help to do that.  You’ve got to know the role of your garments in order to master coordinating your outfits.
