If you have a love for fashion, you’re looking to break into the industry, looking to build your brand – having a website sounds like a match for you.
While it’s easy to get carried away with what you see happening for others, the opportunities that can come along with it.. Having a website is more than just taking photos and posting them.
With the birth of thousands of new blogs and websites each week, it’s easy to get lost when you don’t know how you’re going to stand out.
From juggling your busy day-to-day, you’re trying to decide if you should take that plunge and launch your own fashion website. It’s a huge commitment to make but the payoff is so rewarding – read my full story here.
If you’re in it just for the perks and freebies, don’t even waste your time.
Running a website requires dedication, consistency, a different level of hard work, sacrifice, focus and tough skin.
I know we can often overthink and overanalyze things, but if this is a topic that remains on your mind and continues to pop up, it’s definitely worth spending some time thinking about your next steps.
While I was never hesitant to launch my website a few years, I honestly didn’t care if anything came from it because it allowed me to release and be creative, which is something that was lacking from my then 9 to 5 job. However, if I didn’t decide to jump on that “blogging bandwagon” a few years ago, who’s to say where I’d be right now or what type of work I’d be doing.
With that said, here are five questions to ask yourself on if launching a fashion website is something you should pursue:
#1 Are you willing to give up some (if not most) of your free time to focus on your website
For years, before quitting my 9 to 5, I would work my full time during the day, come home and work all night. I gave up my weekends and spending time with friends to work. We all live a busy life, but some how your website has to also be a priority through it all.
#2 Are you going to allow comparison to kill your hopes and dreams?
It’s easy to compare yourself to someone and get discouraged because it could be something that you envy yet it’s not happening for you. Who cares?! You don’t know that person’s story, the struggles they’ve been through to get where they’re at, you don’t know see their behind the scenes hustle. You can’t compare someone else’s middle of their story to the beginning of yours. Everyone has to start somewhere and a lot start from scratch and build their way up – again, sacrifice.. And tough skin.
#3 Do you have the patience to stick it out?
If only success came overnight, it takes time to build. If you’re looking for a huge response right out the gate, it’ll be hard to live up to that. Are you going to continue to build even when you feel no one is watching? Are you going to continue being consistent to reach your goals? Or, are you going to break away because “nothing” is happening for you or it’s “taking too long?”
#4 What is your brands message?
Having a website is nothing short of building a brand. Do you know how you intend to brand yourself to set yourself apart from what everyone else is doing? Regardless of the content you plan on sharing throughout your website, you should have a clear view on your brands message.
#5 Are you willing to invest in yourself?
Not that you need to spend thousands and thousands of dollars in order to build a website but are you willing to invest in yourself to perfect your craft and ensure you’re putting out that best content that represents your brand? It could be something as simple as enrolling in an online course to learn how to use Photoshop to enhance your photos or investing in a new laptop so you can get work done.
There are no shortcuts to success. If you’re not willing to invest in yourself, why should you expect someone to invest in you and your brand?
